Today, I am sharing a complete DIY Bifold Mini Wallet sewing tutorial. Despite its small, hand-held size, this wallet is highly functional. It features two side card pockets, a snap button closure, and a long zipper pocket that perfectly fits your bills and coins.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sewist, this step-by-step guide will help you create a beautiful custom wallet using your favorite fabric scraps. Let’s get started!
Materials You Will Need
Before we begin, gather the following sewing supplies:
Outer fabric and Lining fabric (Cotton works best)
Fusible interfacing (for structure and durability)
1 Zipper (appropriate length for the bill pocket)
1 Snap button (Kam snaps or metal snaps)
Basic sewing tools (Sewing machine, thread, scissors, pins/clips, and iron)
Finished Size: 9cm x 9cm

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions
Step 1: Make and Attach the Card Pockets
The first step is to create the storage for your credit cards.
Take your card pocket fabric pieces and fold them according to the pattern size. Press them flat with an iron.
Topstitch along the folded top edges for a clean, professional finish.
Place these finished pockets on the left and right sides of your front (inner) main fabric.
Baste them in place by sewing closely along the side and bottom edges.
Step 2: Create and Attach the Snap Button Tab
To keep our bifold wallet securely closed, we need a strap.
Take the small piece of fabric for the strap, fold the raw edges inward, and fold it in half.
Topstitch around the edges to make it sturdy.
Find the center of one side on your back (outer) main fabric.
Align the raw edge of the strap with the raw edge of the main fabric, pointing inward. Sew it securely in place. We will add the actual snap button at the very end.
Step 3: Sew the Long Zipper Pocket for Bills
Now, let's make the long pocket to hold your cash safely!
Sandwich the zipper tape between your prepared outer fabric (with the strap attached) and your lining fabric (with the card pockets attached). Make sure right sides are facing each other.
Use a zipper foot on your sewing machine to sew along the zipper line.
Flip the fabrics over, press with an iron, and topstitch along the folded edge near the zipper to prevent the fabric from getting caught in the zipper teeth later.
Repeat this process for the other side of the zipper tape to form a tube-like pouch.
Step 4: Final Assembly and Finishing
Bring the outer fabrics together and lining fabrics together (right sides facing). Pin all the way around.
Sew around the entire perimeter, but remember to leave a 2-3 inch opening at the bottom of the lining for turning.
Clip the corners to reduce bulk, and carefully turn the wallet right side out through the opening.
Push the corners out neatly, press the whole wallet flat with an iron, and stitch the opening closed.
Step 5: Attach the Snap Button
Finally, fold your wallet in half to find the natural resting place for the strap. Mark the spot, and install your snap buttons
(one on the strap and one on the front body of the wallet).
