DIY] Adorable Rounded Mini Wallet: Card & Coin Pouch Tutorial

Hi everyone! Today, I’m excited to share a tutorial for a super cute mini wallet that fits perfectly in your palm.

Unlike standard rectangular wallets, this one features charming rounded bottom corners that give it a soft, friendly look. It’s highly functional too—featuring a front snap pocket for your most-used card and a #3 zipper pocket to keep your coins and folded bills secure.

The finished size is 12cm x 8cm, small enough to fit comfortably in one hand. The front includes a card pocket secured with a plastic snap button to keep your cards safely in place. Inside, there is a zipper pocket made with a 14cm #3 zipper, perfect for storing coins. The slim profile of a #3 zipper works especially well for small accessories like this, keeping the wallet lightweight and neat.

For the materials, both outer fabric and lining are prepared separately. Interfacing is applied to the outer pieces to give the wallet structure and durability. I used an interfacing similar to Pellon 987F or Vilene H630, which provides gentle support without making the fabric overly stiff. Choosing the right interfacing is important for small projects like this because it directly affects the final shape and feel.

The construction process is beginner-friendly with a few important details. First, finish the top edge of the front pocket and attach the snap button, positioning it according to the height of a standard card. Next, sew the zipper using the sandwich method, placing the zipper between the outer fabric and lining. Stitch one side first, then repeat on the other side for a clean finish.

The highlight of this wallet is the rounded bottom. Sewing curves instead of straight lines adds softness and character to the overall design. When stitching the curved edge, sew slowly and carefully. After sewing, trim the seam allowance and add small notches so the curve turns smoothly when flipped right side out.

Finally, turn the wallet through the opening, shape the curves neatly, and press with an iron to define the structure. The result is a compact yet functional mini wallet with a sweet, rounded silhouette.

Step-by-Step Guide

Cutting & Interfacing
Cut your fabrics according to the measurements. To get that signature rounded bottom, use a small circular object (like a cup) to trace and trim the bottom corners of the main panels. Iron the fusible fleece onto the wrong side of the outer fabric to provide structure.

Installing the Zipper
Lay the #3 zipper face down on the right side of the outer panel. Place the lining on top and sew. Repeat for the other side. Make sure to fold the zipper ends neatly for a professional finish.

Assembly & Sewing the Curves
Place the outer panels right sides together and the lining panels right sides together. Sew around the perimeter, leaving a small opening in the lining for turning. Pro tip: Clip the curved edges carefully so the wallet looks smooth once turned right side out.

Finishing Touches
Turn the wallet through the opening, sew the gap shut, and give it a good press with an iron. Your rounded mini wallet is ready!
